How it Happened
Rhode Island dominated play in the first half, outshooting Penn State 5-0 and maintaining possession throughout the majority of the period. Patrick Gryczewski nearly put the Rams on the board in the ninth minute, but a diving stop by PSU's Kris Shakes kept the game scoreless.

The Nittany Lions eventually broke the deadlock early in the second half when Sean Bettenhausen found the back of the net on Penn State's first shot of the night. Andrew Privett picked up an assist on the tally, serving the ball to Bennenhausen, who slipped a shot inside the far post.

Ten minutes later, Edvin Akselsen drilled a freekick off the crossbar, missing an equalizer by inches. Patrick Agyemang also had a good look in the 60th minute, but his shot skirted just wide of the post.

Agyemang and Akselsen were again robbed by Shakes on back-to-back chances in the 76th and 77th minutes.

Rhode Island finally struck with 3:31 left on the clock, when Rafa Villanueva blasted a penalty kick past Shakes. Rhody was awarded the PK after Isak Oystese was tripped in the box.

The Rams had one final chance to steal a win in the final minute, but Akselsen was unable to get a shot off as he closed in on the goal.
