How it Happened
Rhode Island took a 1-0 lead midway through the first half when Kevin Castaneda sent a tight-angled shot past Hofstra's Wessel Speel and inside the far post. Patrick Gryczewski was credited with an assist on the play as he fed a pass into the box for Castaneda, who one-timed his shot from the edge of the 6-yard box.

The Rams doubled their advantage in the 47th minute, on a heads-up play by Isak Oystese. After a yellow card was issued to Oystese inside the center circle, Hofstra was setting up for the restart. Mason Tatafu appeared to be the one who would take the free kick, however after the official blew his whistle to resume play, Tatafu tapped the ball forward - attempting to steal a couple yards - and advanced up the field, leaving the ball for Stefan Mason. Mason stood above the ball to allow the Pride to organize, but seemingly was unaware that play way live. Oystese then rushed to the ball, tapped it past Mason, took off down the field and beat Speel 1v1 to put Rhody ahead 2-0.

The Pride managed just one shot on goal the rest of the way, a 56th-minute attempt which was saved by Max Hinke.
