How it Happened
Rhode Island dropped a 2-1 decision to Princeton Thursday night at the URI Soccer Complex.Â
Princeton got on the board first for a quick 1-0 lead after a Pietra Tordin goal. Tordin beat the defenders inside the box to get past keeper Faith Hutchins in the fourth minute to open the game.
Rhode Island struck back to even the score 1-1. A cross from Tali O'Leary touched Laila Rosenthal who found Hope Santaniello for the goal. Â
Princeton had a penalty kick opportunity with 12 minutes left to play in the first half, but Hutchins made her third save of the night between the posts to keep the score knotted going into the break.Â
In the second half, Zoe Chazan had a shot that was just out of the keeper's reach, but the official ruled interference by a Rhody defender. The game was decided after a free kick in the 75th minute by Tordin found the back of the net for her second goal of the match.Â
