How it Happened
Two goals from sophomore Tierra Garniss powered Rhode Island to its first win of the season, getting past Vermont 3-2 on the road Sunday.

Vermont's only two goals of the game came in the first half. The Catamounts struck first early with a goal by Kate Bossert. Abbey Knobel was credited with the assist after drawing the Rhody defender to the corner and blasted a cross that Bossert headed in in the eighth minute.

The Rams responded with the first goal of the day by Garniss. The sophomore had a long ball just outside the box to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Vermont struck again once more before the break, after a Karen Wallace goal had too much power for keeper Faith Hutchins. The Cats went into the half up 2-1.

Rhody's offense surged in the second half, as Garniss recorded her first career multi-score game with another goal to even the score at 2-2. Hope Santaniello was credited with her second assist of the season on the score. The Rams secured the win after a shot by senior Brooke Cavino got past Catamount keeper Erin Murphy for the final score 3-2.
