How it Happened
Despite a heavy advantage in shots, Rhode Island was unable to find the back of the net as it played Holy Cross to a scoreless draw Thursday night.
The Rams managed five shots on goal, but Holy Cross keeper Olivia Dubin turned all five attempts away. Rhody applied heavy pressure in the second half in particular, starting with a shot by
Alyssa Fleming just three minutes into the period.
Tierra Garniss and
Erin Hopewell both had shots on goal in a two-minute span in the 56th and 58th minute.
The best scoring chance of the night came in the 77th minute when Holy Cross was awarded a penalty kick. Katie Quinn fired a shot to the upper right corner, but Rhody keeper
Faith Hutchins made the diving save, preserving the tie for her squad.
Quinn had two more shots a minute later, but both were turned away by the Rhody defense, which was strong all night.
