How it Happened
Rhode Island jumped out to an early lead when Isak Oystese found the back of the net in the 10th minute, of an assist from Kevin Castaneda. Castaneda carried the ball over the midfield line and sent a pass to the left flank for Oystese, who finished from the edge of the 18.

Patrick Gryczewski then scored a nearly identical goal in the 31st minute, beating UConn's Michael Stone from the same spot, on another left-footed shot that found its way past Stone and inside the right post. Patrick Agyemang picked up a well-deserved assist on the tally, having worked his way through a slew of UConn defenders before finding Gryczewski out wide.

The Huskies got on the board two minutes later, when Soren Ilsoe headed in a free kick from Mateo Leveque. The 2-1 score stood at the half.

UConn outshot Rhody 6-1 after the break and had a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks, but it was the Rams that capitalized once more. The final goal of the game came with just 25 seconds remaining, as Castaneda got his head on a UConn goal kick and redirected the ball to Rafa Villanueva, who got a shot past Stone and just inside the near post for the eventual 3-1 victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Sophomore Patrick Gryczewski's goal was his second in as many games. He now has five points (2g/1a) on the season.
  • Sophomore Isak Oystese registered his second goal of the season in the win. He nearly added another goal in the second half, but an offsides call negated the would-be goal.
  • Junior Rafa Villanueva netted his team-leading third goal of the season for the Rams.
  • Junior Kevin Castaneda's assists were his second and third of the season.
  • Castaneda now leads the team lead with seven points on two goals and three assists.
  • Redshirt senior Patrick Agyemang came off the bench and picked up his first assist of the season.
  • Freshman Max Hinke finished the night with five saves. At the opposite end of the field, Michael Stone stopped one shot for UConn.
  • The Huskies outshot the Rams 15-4, but only held a 6-4 edge in attempts that were on target.
