2023 Football Schedule Released

KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island will open the 2023 season with back-to-back night games, as the Rams travel to Georgia State on Thursday, Aug. 31 and then come home to host Stony Brook on Friday, Sept. 8 under the lights at Meade Stadium. The complete CAA Football schedule was released by the conference Tuesday afternoon.

As part of the 2023 slate, the Rams will host North Carolina A&T on Saturday, Nov. 11. CAA Football expands to 15 teams in 2023 with the addition of North Carolina A&T and Campbell. With the two additions, the conference slate once again includes four home games and four road contests for each team. Under the league's new scheduling format, each team is paired with two permanent partners that it faces every season. Rhode Island's permanent partners are Maine and New Hampshire.

The other six conference opponents rotate through the schedule, ensuring that all teams meet each other at least once at home and on the road over an eight-year period. Limiting air travel to reduce costs was also a priority in the new scheduling model, with most teams not having more than one flight each season during conference play.

In 2023, Rhode Island will host Stony Brook (9/8), Richmond (10/14), New Hampshire (10/28) and North Carolina A&T. Its road conference games will be at Maine (9/16), Villanova (9/23), UAlbany (10/21) and Towson (9/18).

The Rams will play non-conference games at Georgia State (8/31) and Brown (10/7), while also hosting Bryant (9/30).

The non-conference schedule features 15 games against FBS opponents. Nearly half of those contests are against teams from Power 5 leagues, including three against ACC squads and three versus Big Ten foes. CAA Football teams have 19 victories over FBS opponents since 2009, including two last season. CAA Football has been dominant against non-conference FCS competition, posting a 21-5 record (.808) during the 2022 regular season, which was the best of any league.

CAA Football had five teams (Delaware, Elon, New Hampshire, Richmond and William & Mary) receive berths in the 2022 NCAA FCS playoffs. The five selections were the most for the conference since 2018 and marked the 11th time that at least four CAA teams were chosen for the playoffs.
