How it Happened
La Salle got three free throws from Jhamir Brickus with three seconds left in regulation to force overtime and then limited Rhode Island to 1-of-8 shooting in the extra period, handing the Rams a 77-75 loss Saturday.

Jalen Carey made a pair of free throws with 23 seconds left in regulation to put URI (5-10, 1-2 Atlantic 10) up 71-68. After Rhode Island blocked a layup attempt by Khalil Brantley with 14 seconds to go, La Salle (7-8, 2-1 A-10) got an offensive rebound. Brickus was fouled on a 3-point attempt with three seconds on the clock and made all three to tie the score. Rhody got off a shot on the run, but it was no good.

After Brickus got the first points of overtime on a layup, Sebastian Thomas scored a fastbreak layup to tie the score with 3:18 on the clock. That was URI's final field goal, but the Rams still had the lead after Carey made two free throws with one minute left to make the score 75-73 URI.

It was Brickus coming up big again, as he drained a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 31 seconds to go, putting La Salle ahead by one. Rhode Island had three shots on its next possession, but a Carey step-back jumper, Brayon Freeman shot in the paint and a Malik Martin put-back attempt all fell off the mark.

Fousseyni Drame was fouled with eight seconds left and made his first free throw. The second shot missed and URI got the rebound, but the outlet pass resulted in a turnover and the Explorers ran out the clock for the win.
