How it Happened
Rhode Island won its second straight game in a convincing 3-0 win at George Mason Sunday afternoon.Â
Rhody's offense started in the first half, when the Rams struck first to get on the board. Freshman Lauren MacDonald scored her first goal of her career when she took the corner kick in the 14th minute. MacDonald took a shot that went untouched and curled to find the opposite corner of the net.Â
MacDonald found the back of the net again in the second half, when she had a shot off a breakaway just outside the box. While the Patriots had many opportunities, including six shots in the second half of play, but it wasn't enough to get past keeper Faith Hutchins. The senior keeper collected her sixth game of the season with an empty net after making four saves. With under 10 minutes to play, Cristina Sallent dished a pass to Emma Kirkpatrick who had a blast that was too high for Mason keeper Ginny Fronk to stop, sending the Rams home with the win.
