How it Happened
Rhode Island was just seconds away from a key Atlantic 10 victory, but Fordham scored off a corner kick scrum to salvage a 2-2 tie Sunday afternoon.

In a match between two teams tied for seventh place in the conference, both sides were looking to gain three points in the league standings. The tie, along with a Loyola Chicago win and a St. Bonaventure tie Sunday, meant URI, Fordham, Loyola and the Bonnies are all separated by one point. Each team has four matches remaining.

Rhode Island led 2-1 and appeared headed for its third straight win before Fernanda Sema scored with six seconds left Saturday. Fordham had a corner kick in the closing seconds, and the ball bounced around the box before Sema was able to get a shot off while flanked by a pair of defenders. She got just enough on the shot to slide it past Faith Hutchins to tie the match.

The stunning end overshadowed a brilliant second half for URI. Trailing 1-0, Rhody scored twice in a 45-second span to take control. Sam Hagerty scored in the 67th minute on a missile that she launched from outside the box into the upper right 90, over the outstretched dive of Fordham keeper Serena Mensah. Moments later, Cristina Sallent was taken down in the box, setting up a Jordyn Allen penalty kick that put Rhody up, 2-1.

In the 76th minute, Hutchins made a huge play. URI was whistled for a foul in the box, giving Caroline Monahan a penalty kick. Hutchins read the play expertly, smothering the shot with a dive to her left, preserving the lead.

However, the late goal by Sema forced the teams to settle for a tie.
