How it Happened
Rhode Island picked up its third Atlantic 10 victory in a big road win at St. Bonaventure Thursday. Rhody struck twice early and maintained its lead until the clock hit zeroes in the 2-1 victory.

Just 44 seconds into the game, Courtney Poon was able to capitalize on a defensive error and used a slide tackle to sneak the ball from Bonnies keeper Chiara Gottinger and score. The Rams struck again 25 minutes later when Sam Hagerty scored her second goal in as many games off a cross from Lauren MacDonald.

The Bonnies answered with a successful penalty kick by Olivia Allen. The Rams went into the half with their lead, 2-1.

Although the second 45 minutes was offensively controlled by the Bonnies, no shots were getting past URI keeper Faith Hutchins. Hutchins faced nine shots in the second half of play alone, and was able to preserve the win with her six saves on the night to send the Rams home with the win.

Inside the Box Score

  • The Rams haven't lost a game since their conference opener on Sept. 21. Since that 1-0 loss to Duquesne, Rhody has been 3-0-2.
  • Freshman Courtney Poon scored her first career goal less than a minute into the game.
  • Senior Sam Hagerty netted her second goal in as many games in the win.
  • Freshman Lauren MacDonald paced the Rams with six shots, and chipped in the assist on Hagerty's goal.
  • After scoring two goals through the first 11 games of the season, the Rams have now scored eight goals in the last four games.
