How it Happened
Rhode Island upset No. 25 Fordham, using a second-half goal from Brandon Bermingham and a superb performance from goalie Edu Rodriguez to score a 1-0 victory Saturday night.

Bermingham got Rhode Island on the board on the 63rd minute. After collecting a long pass near the top right corner of the box, then dribbled through a pair of defenders before beating keeper Carter Abbott's dive to the left, lining a shot to the back of the net.

Minutes later, Fordham nearly tied the score when Louis Lehr got his head on a corner kick, but Rodriguez made the diving stop by the near post.

Rodriguez made back-to-back saves in a bang-bang sequence of the 77th minute. Daniel D'Ippolito ripped a hard shot from point blank range that Rodriguez knocked away. The carom went to Shizu Yohena, who fired on net, only to have Rodriguez stand tall again, deflecting the shot away safely.

Rhode Island had to survive the final 2:30 a man down, as a scrum in front of the URI goal resulted in a red card for defender Rodrigo De Castro. Despite facing a pair of Fordham corner kicks in the final 1:06, Rhody held on and handed the nationally-ranked guests a loss.
