How it Happened
The size inside for Washington State was too much for Rhode Island as the Rams fell 78-57 in the third-place game of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic Sunday afternoon.

Washington State (3-1) scored 52 points in the paint. Isaac Jones led the way with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting.  

Both teams shot better than 50 percent from the floor in the opening half, as Rhode Island was 14-of-26 (53.8 percent) and Washington State was 18-of-35 (51.4 percent). The big difference was turnovers. The Cougars has just three, while URI committed 10. This led to a 10-4 edge for Washington State in points off turnovers in the half.

In the second half, Washington State's size wore Rhody down. The Rams (3-2) were held to 29.6 percent (8-for-27) after the break.

  • Zek Montgomery led Rhode Island with 19 points.
  • He was named to the Hall of Fame Classic All-Tournament Team after averaging 18.5 points and 3.5 rebounds over the two games.
