How it Happened
Rhode Island set a season high in points and used a swarming defense to shut down Le Moyne in a 97-53 victory Thursday afternoon.
The Rams (7-5) limited the visitors to just eight field goals (8-for-24) and forced 10 turnovers in the first half. The effort helped URI build a 17-point lead by halftime that was never truly challenged down the stretch.
Both teams struggled out of the gate, but Rhody guard
Teisha Hyman scored nine points over the final four minutes of the first quarter to kickstart the Rams. She also assisted on a 3-pointer by
Sophie Phillips and had a steal that led to a layup before the buzzer to help URI establish a 16-8 lead by the end of the period.
Guard
Dee Dee Davis took over in the second quarter, scoring 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting, helping extend the Ram lead to 17 points by the half. Rhody took a 40-23 lead into the break.
Le Moyne (2-9) was never able to get the deficit below 15 points the rest of the way.

- The game was Rhode Island's Education Day contest. More than 5,600 elementary school students from 42 schools around the state attended the game. The overall attendance was a season-high 6918.
- Guard Teisha Hyman scored a season-high 19 points. She was 7-for-11 from the field.
- Guard Dee Davis added 19 points to go with four rebounds and four assists.
- Guard Sophie Phillips set a new career-high with seven 3-point baskets and finished with 21 points. The seven treys matched the program record held by Lindsey O'Neil and Charise Wilson.
- It was the eighth time in her career Phillips has made five or more 3-pointers in a game.
- Phillips now has 104+ today career 3-pointers, putting her 10th in program history. She is tied with Tasha King (1993-97).
- Forward Anaelle Dutat matched her career high with 14 rebounds to go with six points.
- She has 27 rebounds over her last two games.
- Her previous high was 14 against Providence on Nov. 11 last season.

- Guard Eva Dechent scored a career-high eight points off the bench. Â
- Guard Katie Ledden scored her first career points with a layup in the fourth quarter. She finished with five points,
- Rhode Island's defense forced 21 turnovers, including three shot clock violations.
- It was the fourth time this season Rhody has forced at least 20 turnovers.
- Le Moyne started 0-for-8 from 3-point range and finished 3-for-16 from deep.
