How It Happened
Offensive struggles hurt Rhode Island as it fell at Saint Joseph's 64-50 Wednesday night, ending URI's two-game winning streak.

Rhode Island (8-14, 4-6 Atlantic 10) found itself in a 10-point hole at halftime, largely due to the perimeter shooting of the Hawks. Led by Erik Reynolds II and Cameron Brown, Saint Joseph's (11-11, 5-5 A-10) made 6-of-16 from long range, helping to gradually build the 36-26 halftime advantage.

URI's defensive effort was improved in the second half, particularly early in the period. However, despite several defensive stops, the Rams were never able to make a true push. Rhode Island got within nine points on four separate occasions, the last of which came after a Brayon Freeman layup made the score 46-37 with 12:27 to go. Brown's layup moments later pushed the Hawk lead back to 11 and it remained in double digits the rest of the way.

URI shot 9-of-28 (32.1 percent) from the floor in the second half, including 0-for-7 from the arc. Saint Joseph's wasn't much better, hitting 33.3 percent (11-of-33) and going 0-for-9 from long range. With both sides struggling to execute on offense, the Hawks were able to keep Rhode Island at an arm's length and secure the win.
