KINGSTON, R.I. - Rhode Island freshman
Michael Anderson was named Co-Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week following his strong showing in three games against Sam Houston over the weekend.
The Havertown, Pa. native started in each of his first three career games, batting .455 (5-for-11) with four doubles. Anderson hit safely in all three games, driving in four runs and scoring twice during the series. He also had a pair of multi-hit games. In URI's 13-3 win at Sam Houston on Saturday, Anderson had two doubles, four RBI and one run scored.
He had a .538 on-base percentage for the week and slugged .818.
Anderson split the honor with VCU pitcher Zachary Peters. VCU's Will Carlone was the league's Player of the Week, and Saint Joseph's starter David Owsik was named Pitcher of the Week.
Rhode Island plays a three-game series at Mercer this weekend. The first game is Friday, Feb. 24 at 6 p.m.
