How it Happened
Rhode Island used a seven-run third inning to dominate Quinnipiac on Wednesday afternoon, taking the season game of the season against the Bobcats 9-2.Â
The Rams' third inning featured 12 Rhode Island at-bats, including the first six Rams reaching base safely. Reece Moroney began the inning with a solo home run to left field. It was his second home run of the season. Moroney later singled in a pair of runs in his second at-bat of the frame.Â
After Moroney's homer, Jack Hopko singled and later scored on on a double to the left center alley from Ryan Thompson. After an Aidan Botti walk, Brian Connolly singled down the right field line and plated both Thompson and Botti. The offensive surge in the third inning was capped off by a Hopko single that scored both Moroney and Scott Penney.Â
Using the day as a staff day, Rhode Island sent eight arms to the bump. Rhode Island pitching had combined for just four Quinnipiac hits entering the ninth. The Bobcats added two runs with two outs in the ninth to avoid the shut out.Â
