How it Happened
Rhode Island battled all the way to the end, but a potential game-tying 3-pointer went off the rim as the final horn sounded and URI fell 74-71 at Fordham.
Sparked by the second-half play of
Sebastian Thomas, Rhody (8-20, 4-12 Atlantic 10) went toe-to-toe with Fordham. Trailing 74-69 with just 10 seconds to go after a Darius Quisenberry free throw, Thomas drove coast-to-coast for a layup with four seconds on the clock. Rhody's defense caused an inbounding violation by Antrell Charlton, giving Rhody possession under its own basket.
URI got the ball to
Ishmael Leggett at the top of the key. Despite heavy traffic, he got off a shot before the buzzer, but it glanced off the rim. Fordham (23-6, 11-5 A-10) escaped with the win.
