CSUN Pulls Away From Rams, 9-1

How It Happened
A seven-run rally that needed just three hits sparked Cal State Northridge to a 9-1 win over Rhode Island on the second day of the Silicon Valley Classic II in San Jose, Calif. Saturday afternoon.

Maddie Padilla and Shaylan Whatman reached on back-to-back singled before Alexis Garcia laid down a sacrifice bunt. An error on the play allowed Garcia to reach, loading the bases.

Maiya Alemania drew a bases loaded walk to force Padilla in. Everyone moved up a base when Gizella Vargas Sandoval singled to bring Whatman in for a 4-1 lead. Two more walks, a pair of sacrifice flies and a a wild pitch allowed five more runs to come in, setting up the eight-run rule.

Rhode Island was retired 1-2-3 in the top of the fifth, bringing the game to an early end.
