Rams Edged by George Mason, 1-0

How It Happened
George Mason starter Aly Rayle blanked Rhode Island for the second time in as many days to lead the Patriots to a 1-0 win Sunday afternoon. The win gave the Patriots (17-11, 3-3 Atlantic 10) the series win.

Rhode Island (6-17, 3-3 Atlantic 10) had the potential tying run on third base in the top of the seventh. Elena Gonzalez reached on a single and stole second with one out. Skyler Rapuano hit a hard grounder up the middle, but second baseman Marlaina Bozek made a diving stop to take away a hit and limit Gonzalez to advancing to third. Rayle then struck out Kylie Bulinski to end the game.

George Mason got the lone run of the game in bottom of the second. Elyssa DeRosa led off with a triple to left center. Zoe Vozick drew a one-out walk and immediately stole second base to put two in scoring position. Sydney Bales grounded out to drive in DeRosa, but that was all the Patriots got in the inning.

An inning later, the Patriots threatened again with Nicole Bechtel led off with a triple to left. Liz Lynchard came on for Rhody starter Katie Zaun. Lynchard sandwiched a pair of strikeouts around a pop up to strand the runner and get out of the inning.

Unfortunately the Rams were unable to get any runs off Rayle. She allowed just three singles while striking out 10 batters without a walk for her second shutout of the weekend.
