How It Happened
Northeastern took the lead with a four-run third inning and never gave it up as it handed Rhode Island a 7-2 loss Wednesday afternoon.
Rhode Island (8-12) got on the board first when
Eric Genther launched a leadoff home run to right field for a 1-0 lead.
Northeastern (19-4) put together a four-run rally in the third. Feinberg was hit by a pitch to start the frame, and Thorbahn homered to left field to put the Huskies up, 2-1. Beckstein singled, and after one out, Crossen homered to left center, increasing the lead to 4-1.
In the top of the sixth, Genther doubled to lead off the inning, and
Rob Butler drove him in with a two-out single through the right side, cutting the deficit to two runs. However, Northeastern responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half. Beckstein walked and scored when Maldonado tripled down the left field line. Crossen followed with a single to bring Maldonado in. The Huskies tacked on an insurance run in the eighth to seal the game and snap URI's four-game winning streak.
