SOUTH KINGSTOWN - Rhode Island's top two boats were victorious in the return of racing to the Narrow River, as the Rams held off Massachusetts and Boston College Friday morning.

Using floating starts for the 2,000-meter course, Rhody's Varsity 8+ boat recorded a time of 6:30.22. The team of coxswain Ellie McGee, Hailey Pardi, Catie Castle, Bella Bruno, Julia Fortin, Elizabeth Greason, Samantha Gumprecht, Nicole Jones and Emma Barnhart were 3.3 seconds ahead of Massachusetts. BC was a half second behind UMass, as all three boats remained in contact across the finish line.

The Second Varsity 8+ race was even closer. Rhode Island's team of coxswain Danielle Swan, Sammie Gorecki, Lauren Thomas, Emily Olin, Emily Drappeau, Cait Reardon, Bethany Nordstrom, Sarah Pecoraro and Olivia Kowalski had a winning time of 6:42.23. Boston College was right behind in 6:43.92, followed by UMass in 6:44.82.

The race came together late in the week, thanks to the work of all three coaching staffs. With poor weather set to hit the region Saturday, the three teams were able to rearrange their schedules and get the competition in.

Rhode Island is scheduled to compete at Overpeck in New Jersey on Saturday, April 8.
