How it Happened
The Rhode Island baseball team led for the entirety of a game against Holy Cross on Wednesday afternoon at Bill Beck Field, eventually cruising to an 11-7 win.Â
The Rams (13-16, 3-3 Atlantic 10) scored in five different innings, leading by as much as 8-0 at one point in the contest. Rhody now has two wins in as many days, having defeated Brown on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 12-5.
Alex Ramirez highlighted the box score with his 3-for-4 performance that included two runs scored, four RBI and a triple. His three-bagger cleared the bases in the bottom of the second to hand URI its first lead of the day at 3-0.
Addison Kopack also joined in on the early scoring spree, plating a run with a single.Â
Rhode Island continued to build its lead from there, using a sac fly, a double and a pair of singles to drive in four runs over the next three innings.Â
The Crusaders (11-24, 3-8 Patriot League) eventually got on the board in the top of the sixth when a base hit drove in two runners and cut Rhode Island's advantage down to 8-2. The home team got both runs back in the bottom of the frame, thanks to
Eric Genther's triple and a sac fly off the bat of
Anthony DePino.
After being limited offensively for the majority of the day, Holy Cross' bats made a push in the final few frames, coming up with four runs in the eighth before adding one more in the ninth. The five tallies, two of which were unearned, as well as a solo shot from
Jack Hopko in the bottom of the eighth put the game at its final score of 11-7.Â
