Hibbard, Hennelly Lead URI to Win Over St. Bonaventure

How It Happened
Rhode Island won its fourth straight game, beating St. Bonaventure 6-2 Saturday afternoon to inch closer to clinching its first postseason appearance in 13 seasons.

Senior Jessica Hennelly drove in two runs and scored two of her own to lead the offense. Freshman Ashley Hibbard picked up the victory with 5.0 scoreless innings of relief, giving the Rams (20-27-1, 10-11 Atlantic 10) a big boost out of the bullpen. The win secured URI's first 20-win since 2012.

URI trailed 2-1 entering the fourth inning. Hennelly got things started with a single, and she moved to third when Becca Zawistowski reached on an error. Cassie Swenson singled through the left side to bring Hennelly in and tie the game.

An inning later, Hennelly came through again. With Syler Rapuano on first with one out, Hennelly doubled to left center to bring Rapuano around with the go-ahead run. Emily Power later drove in Hennelly with an RBI single to make it 4-2. Before the inning ended, pinch hitter Annabeth Carlberg reached on an error that enabled Power to add an insurance run.

In the fifth inning, Hennelly again drove in Rapuano, hitting a two-out double down the rightfield line that allowed Rapuano to score from first base. With the four-run lead, Hibbard did the rest, allowing just one hit over five innings to shut the Bonnies down.
