Rhode Island 7, VCU 5
The Rams officially extended their season in the first game of the doubleheader, holding off VCU to secure a spot in the 2023 Atlantic 10 Championship.Â
Though the game was close early, Anthony DePino and Eric Genther's back-to-back home runs in the seventh essentially put it out of reach for the visitors by padding the previous lead of 4-3 with an extra two scores.Â
While the visiting Rams outscored their hosts 2-1 in the following frame to move the score to 7-5, Ryan Andrade came in from the bullpen and secured the three-out save.Â
The closer was credited with his seventh stop of the year for his efforts, which stands as the 10th-most any Rhody arm has achieved in a single season. Southpaw Trystan Levesque was awarded the win following his quality start. He fanned eight batters and was tagged with two earned runs in 6.2 innings of work, improving to 6-4 on the year.Â
