How it Happened
The Rhode Island women's soccer team dropped a 1-0 result to in-state foe Bryant on Thursday evening at the URI Soccer Complex, battling overcast conditions along with the Bulldogs in the season-opener.
The lone goal of the match was scored in the second half, when Bryant's Griffin found the back of the net in the 58th minute.
Though the Bulldogs came away with the victory, Rhode Island controlled the ball for most of the contest, out-shooting its visitors 18-5. Over the course of 90 minutes, the Rams fired off five shots on goal. Both
Lauren MacDonald and
Tess O'Connell led the way with two apiece, while
Alyssa Fleming recorded one of her own.
O'Connell accounted for Rhody's final shot of the night when she had a chance to net the equalizer in the 87th minute, but the Bulldogs' keeper maintained her shutout.
