How it Happened
Rhode Island picked up its first victory of the season by blanking Davidson 1-0 Thursday night at the URI Soccer Complex.
The host Rams struck early when Jordyn Allen sent a long pass over the top of the defense. Cristina Sallent broke perfectly on the pass and had a breakout right up the middle of the box. She beat keeper Emily Smith low to the right just four minutes into the match for a 1-0 lead.

In the 28th minute, Davidson's Alli Jacobson broke into the box to the right of Rhody keeper Faith Hutchins. The hard shot went to the lower left corner, but Hutchins was able to dive and knock the shot away.

Lauren MacDonald nearly gave the Rams a two-goal lead in the 51st minute. Sallent found MacDonald at the top of the box, and MacDonald turned and fired a shot that Smith was just able to smother.

In the 83rd minute, Davidson got a free kick just outside the box to Hutchins' right. Riley Patton lofted a shot toward the upper corner, but the ball went over the crossbar for a goal kick.
