How it Happened
An urgent second half produced frustration as Rhode Island carried play for the final 45 minutes but could not get on the board in a 2-0 loss at Saint Louis Saturday night.

Saint Louis broke the tie in the 31st minute with a throw-in deep in the Rhode Island territory. Just a couple feet from the end line, Galen Flynn sent a long throw into the box. Max Floriani got a head on the ball and flicked it to Mads Stistrup Peterson, who used a header of his own to get the ball across for a 1-0 lead.

Rhode Island nearly got an equalizer In the 57th minute when Patrick Gryczewski fired a shot across the box. Saint Louis keeper Jeremi Abonnel made a diving stop to his left, knocking the ball away for a URI corner kick.

Moments later, Isak Oystese got free on the right side of the box and lined a shot that was stopped by Abonnel. The rebound went back to Oystese, who shot again. This time the shot got past Abonnel, but a Saint Louis defender standing on the goal line kicked the ball away for a team save.

Rhody's tough luck continued in the 62nd minute when Kevin Castaneda launched a deep shot toward the upper right 90. The ball caromed off the crossbar and away from danger. In the 79th minute, Rafa Villanueva fired away from long range, but the shot went just over the cross bar for a goal kick.

Unfortunately it was Saint Louis that got the second goal of the night. Cole Dougherty put a shot from point blank range on net that Edu Rodriguez stopped. The rebound went to Tanner Anderson, who guided a shot into the open net to put the game away.
