How it Happened
Rhode Island put up a gallant effort, but the offensive firepower of Caiya Hanks sparked Wake Forest to a 3-1 victory Thursday night.
The Rams (0-4-3) managed to get a goal from Christina Sallent early in the second half. It was just the second tally allowed by the Wake Forest defense this season.

The visiting Demon Deacons (6-0-1) scored twice in a span of 78 seconds midway through the first half. Hanks broke the ice in the 22nd minute when she finished a cross from Tyla Ochoa, who had carried the ball down the right sldeline. In the 23rd minute, Hanks controlled the ball on the right side of the box and sent a cross to Alex Wood, who found the back of the net for a 2-0 lead.

Sallent made things interesting less than three minutes into the second half when she scored off a free kick. A Wake Forest foul just outside the left side of the box set up the chance, and Sallent lined a low shot to the left corner, beating the keeper and cutting the deficit in half.

Hanks figured in the final goal, as she set up Emily Murphy in front of the net for a goal in the 68th minute. Hanks finished the night with one goal and two assists.
