How It Happened
For the second game in a row, a late comeback attempt came up short as Rhode Island fell 71-67 at Richmond Sunday afternoon.
Rhode Island (11-7, 3-2 Atlantic 10) trailed by as many as 11 points before whittling the deficit down to two with 18 seconds to go. However, Richmond (15-3, 5-0 A-10) got two free throws from Addie Budnik – her first points of the day – and then forced a turnover in the closing seconds to ice the game.
The Richmond trio of Grace Townsend (26), Katie Hill (19) and Maggie Doogan (16) combined for 61 of Richmond's 71 points on the day. With them leading the way, the Spiders managed to have a lead for more than 38 minutes of the game.

- The Rams also had a 10-2 advantage in second-chance points.

- Guard Sophie Phillips led Rhode Island with 22 points, her seventh career game with 20 or more points. She made five 3-pointers and was a perfect 5-for-5 at the free throw line.
- Phillips now has 57 3-point baskets this season, which already is tied for the eighth most in a single season in program history. She is tied with three others in the spot, as Dolly Cairns (2021-22), Amanda McGrew (2007-08) and Safi Mojidi (2005-06) all had 57
- Phillips and Charise Wilson are the only players in program history to make 55 or more 3-pointers in two different seasons.
- Forward Mayé Touré had 16 points and six rebounds.
- Guards Dee Dee Davis and Teisha Hyman both scored 12 points. Davis had six rebounds and four assists, while Hyman had five assists.
- Center Tenin Magassa returned after a five-game absence and had five points and four rebounds in 12 minutes.
- Only five players scored points for URI.
- Richmond scored 18 points in each of the first three quarters and had 17 in the final quarter.
