How It Happened
No. 21/23 Dayton started both halves with matching 11-0 runs and controlled the entire handing Rhode Island a 96-62 loss Saturday afternoon.
With All-American candidate Daron Holmes II leading the way, the Flyers (15-2, 5-0 Atlantic 10) led by as many as 24 points in the first half. Holmes had 14 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Javon Bennett added 11 on 4-of-5 shooting to help Dayton control play from the start.
Jaden House had 15 points for Rhode Island (9-9, 3-2 Atlantic 10) in the first half, but no other Ram had more than three points by halftime.
The Flyers removed any doubt early in the second half. An 11-0 run that included a pair of 3-pointers by Nate Santos extended the lead to 31 points at 58-27. From there, the teams played out the string.
