How It Happened
Rhode Island dominated from start to finish, using a stifling defensive effort to hammer La Salle 75-47 Wednesday afternoon.

The Rams (13-8, 5-3 Atlantic 10) controlled the game from the jump, outscoring La Salle 17-5 in the first quarter opened the game with a 16-2 run. Rhode Island forced 10 turnovers and limited La Salle (6-13, 3-5 A-10) to 2-for-8 from the field, the second of which was a banked 3-pointer in the final minute of the period. Despite the defensive pressure, URI was whistled for just one foul in the quarter while stifling the Explorers.

The second quarter saw the lead grow to as many as 18 points (27-5) following a Mayé Touré layup early in the second quarter. The teams played more evenly for the rest of the half, but the Rhody lead never dipped below 12 points. The Rams carried a 30-16 lead into the break.

Rhode Island scored the first eight points of the third quarter – with four points each from Dee Dee Davis and Sophie Phillips. That extended the lead to 22 points and removed all doubt for the final result.
