How it Happened
Rhode Island used an efficient third quarter to pick up its third straight win Wednesday night, shooting 56.3 percent in the 10-minute span to beat George Washington 66-52 on the road.
The Rams (15-8, 7-3 A-10) saw George Washington (8-13, 1-8 A-10) jump to an 8-2 lead at the first media timeout after a sloppy start. The visitors committed seven turnovers in the first 10 minutes of play, and trailed 15-10 after one.Â
Rhody stormed back in the second, and a Dee Dee Davis layup tied it at 20. Sophie Phillips had back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Rams a three-point lead with 1:21 to go until halftime, but Nya Lok responded with a 3-pointer of her own with less than a minute to play to send the teams into the break tied at 26.
The second half was all Rhode Island, as the Rams used a dominant 24-9 third quarter and never looked back. George Washington cut the lead to 10 (61-51) at 2:22 but it wasn't enough and Rhody was able to come out on top with the win.Â
