How it Happened
Lauren MacDonald had a goal and an assist and freshman goalie
Chelsea Mohammed earned her first career win to lead Rhode Island to a big 2-0 win at Fordham Sunday afternoon.
The victory – URI's first in the Bronx in more than two decades – evened Rhode Island's overall record (6-6-2) and its Atlantic 10 record at 3-3. It also was a big boost to Rhody's postseason chances.
Early in the second half,
Sam Hagerty sent a long cross to
Lauren MacDonald. MacDonald was able to volley the ball into the box, setting up a header by
Kaia Rice that found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
URI padded the lead in the 67th minute. MacDonald took a long pass down the middle of the field from
Tierra Garniss and got behind the back line. She beat keeper Kyla King with a low show for the quality insurance.
