How It Happened
Rhode Island missed a chance to improve its postseason chances as it fell 3-2 at Saint Joseph's Saturday night.
The Rams were able to come back from one-goal deficits twice in the match, but the host Hawks got a goal from Tommaso Rossetto with three minutes remaining to pull out the victory. Rossetto's game-winner was assisted by Campbell McIntyre, who played a role in all three goals for Saint Joseph's.
In the 10th minute, Patrick Vani put the hosts on top when he scored on a give-and-go play inside the box. McIntyre and Luke Johnson assisted on the goal. Íñigo Etxegarai pulled Rhody even when he took a throw in from
Mathias Taylor and got behind the defense to beat keeper Carter Fitzgerald in a 1-on-1 situation. Five minutes later Saint Joseph's regained the lead when McIntyre recorded his first goal of the season off an assist from Blake Diehuis.
Keegan Walker's goal in the 59th minute tied things up again. He was assisted by Nikos Clarke-Toszak, giving the Rams 30 minutes to try and take their first lead of the night.
It was not meant to be, as Rossetto put the match away with his goal, and Rhody was unable to get one more equalizer in the final three minutes.
