How it Happened
The Rams battled, but fell at Dayton Sunday afternoon. Rhody had a late-game chance but couldn't find the back of the net and was sent home with the loss. Â
Rhody keeper Chelsea Mohammed, making her debut between the posts for the Rams, was tested early. She made six saves in the first half, including a penalty kick just before the half, but Diana Benigno's shot was stopped by Mohammed and the teams were sent into the break scoreless.Â
Kyra Karfonta drew a call in the box to open the second half of play and this time connected on the penalty kick. The score came in the 50th minute.
Forward Lauren MacDonald drew a penalty kick when she was taken down in the box in the 84th minute. Kyra Samalonis took the kick for Rhody, but a diving save by Dayton keeper Batoul Reda knocked the shot away. Aida Name got to the rebound first and drilled a low shot on target, but Reda dove back to her left and made another save, pushing the shot off the far post to deny the Rams.Â
