How it Happened
George Washington's offensive efficiency was too much for Rhode Island to handle as the Revolutionaries spoiled Senior Day, sweeping the Rams 25-21, 25-20, 25-20 Saturday afternoon.
Set One – George Washington 25, Rhode Island 21Â
GW (19-10, 9-7 Atlantic 10) came out firing in the opening set, recording 19 kills with just one attack error in 34 swings. The top blocking team in the Atlantic 10, Rhode Island (9-20, 4-12 A-10) did not have a block in the set. Cianna Tejada had five kills and Hayee Brown added four kills to lead a balanced attack as the Revolutionaries hit .529 as a team.
Set Two – George Washington 25, Rhode Island 20Â
With the scored tied 7-7, George Washington used an 8-2 run to open a 15-9 lead. Rhode Island – which never led in the set – was able to get back within two points twice at 18-16 and 20-18. Unfortunately, the Rams could not come all the way back.
Set Three – George Washington 25, Rhode Island 20
The most competitive set of the match featured seven ties and four lead changes as Rhode Island fought to keep its chances alive. After falling behind 6-1, Rhody rallied to take a 10-9 lead on a
Chloe Abuto service ace. URI was never able to get in front by more than one point despite the tight nature of the set. Trailing 21-20 following a GW service error, the Rams could not capitalize, as the Revolutionaries scored the final four points of the match, three of which came on URI attack errors.
