RHODE ISLAND VS. YALE - SERIES NOTES
- Rhode Island and Yale are meeting for the 14th time overall and the second season in a row.
- Yale leads the overall series, 8-5.
- Rhode Island has won the last three meetings, including a 76-72 victory in the Ryan Center last year.
- Cam Estevez had eight points in just 11 minutes off the bench for the Rams in the game.
- The only other Rhode Island players on this years squad to play in the game were Jaden House (7 points, 3 assists), David Fuchs (7 points, 5 rebounds) and Always Wright (2 points). Wright is redshirting this season and will not play.
- Both schools have played Fairfield this year. Rhody defeated the Stags 96-58 in its season opener, while Yale beat them 91-66 at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Tipoff on Nov. 23.
- The win was the 400th career victory for Yale head coach James Jones, who is 400-315 overall.
- Yale is playing its first game in eight days. The Bulldogs last played on Nov. 24, a 100-94 loss to Delaware.
- Of Yale's other three losses this year, two are to Power 4 schools Minnesota (59-56 on Nov. 16) and Purdue (92-84 on Nov. 11).
- Yale is coming off a 23-10 season a year ago in which it won the Ivy League title and then defeated Auburn 78-76 in the opening round of the NCAA Championship.
- Guard John Poulakidas reach 1,000 career points in Yale's loss to Delaware. He leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 20.6 points per game.
RAMS LOOKING FOR BEST START SINCE 1947-48Â
- Rhode Island has won its first seven games for the 10th time in program history.
- A win Monday would make Rhode Island 8-0, which would be the program's seventh best start.
- It would mark the best start to a season in 76 years, dating back to a 9-0 open in 1947-48.
- Rhode Island head coach Archie Miller is looking to join the legendary Frank Keaney as the only coaches in program history to open a season 8-0 or better.Â
- Keaney and the Rams began 1947-48 9-0 in what was his final season at the helm.Â
- It was the second straight season and the sixth time overall Keaney's teams began a year 9-0 or better.
- URI started 9-0 in 1930-31, 1946-47 and 1947-48.
- It was 10-0 in 1940-41 and 12-0 in 1928-29.
- Keaney set a program record with a 13-0 start in 1938-39.
LAWRENCE ON A HOT STREAK
- After scoring a combined eight points in his first two games of the season, junior guard Jamarques Lawrence has settled into a steady offensive performer.
- He has averaged 14.8 points per game over the last five contests, reaching double figures four times and scoring at least nine points in five straight.
- After beginning the season 2-for-8 from the arc, Lawrence is 14-for-27 (.519) in his last five games.
- He also has 24 assists and 14 turnovers on the year, providing a capable handle when Sebastian Thomas is off the floor.
THOMAS CLOSING IN ON 1,000 CAREER POINTS
- Senior point guard Sebastian Thomas has 989 career points, leaving him just 11 shy of 1,000 milestone.
- This season, he is averaging 15.8 points per game while reaching double figures in all six games he has played.
- Last season he scored 627 points while at UAlbany, putting up 19.6 points per game.
- Dating back to last season, Thomas has scored 10 or more points in 16 consecutive contests.
- Over the course of 100 career games at the college level, Thomas has averaged 9.9 points per game.
- He has scored 362 points during his 68 games with the Rams.
