Rhode Island Takes Aim At 10th Straight Win Tuesday

RHODE ISLAND VS. BROWN - SERIES NOTES
  • Rhode Island and Brown are meeting for the 166th time, the most Rhode Island has played any other team.
  • The Rams lead the series 109-56, but Brown has won each of the last three meetings between the schools.
  • Last year the Bears defeated URI 67-64 behind 22 points from Kino Lilly, Jr.
  • Rhode Island was 15-of-31 at the free throw line in the three-point loss.
  • Lilly, Jr. leads Brown in scoring with 19.9 points per game, which ranks second in the Ivy League.
  • Rhode Island last defeated Brown on Nov. 28, 2018, a 71-51 victory.
  • That win capped a streak of seven straight victories in the series for the Rams, and 16 wins in 17 meetings.
  • Rhode Island has a slight 41-39 edge when playing at Brown.
  • The Rams are 7-3 in their last 10 visits to the Pizzitola Center.
  • Both teams come into the game hot. Rhode Island is 9-0 and one of eight unbeaten teams remaining in the country. Brown has won five straight, including a 76-75 victory over Bryant on Dec. 6.
  • Of Brown's nine games, three have been decided by two points or less. The Bears opened the season with a 72-71 loss at Siena before falling 69-67 to Maine. 
  • The teams have had one common opponent thus far. Rhode Island beat Holy Cross 91-77 on Nov. 8, while Brown fell to the Crusaders 73-65 on Nov. 16.
  • Brown is the second Ivy League opponent for URI in eight days. Rhody beat Yale 84-78 on Dec. 2.

RAMS ONE OF EIGHT REMAINING UNBEATEN TEAMS

  • With a 9-0 record, Rhode Island is one of eight remaining unbeaten teams in the country through Sunday's action.
  • The Rams are one of five team sitting at 9-0 entering Monday's action.
  • Besides URI, UC Irvine (Big West), Utah State (Mountain West), Florida (SEC) and Oklahoma (SEC) are all 9-0.
  • Drake (Missouri Valley), Loyola Chicago (Atlantic 10) and Tennessee (SEC) are all 8-0.
  • The only two conferences with multiple unbeaten teams are the SEC and the Atlantic 10.
  • From the SEC, Florida, Oklahoma and Tennessee remain unscathed, while Rhode Island and Loyola Chicago are unbeaten in the A-10.
  • Oregon (Big Ten) lost for the first time Sunday.
  • None of the eight unbeaten teams play Monday.
  • Rhode Island and Tennessee are the only unbeaten teams playing Tuesday. This gives Rhode Island a chance to be the first team in the country to open with 10 straight victories this season.

RHODY RECEIVES TOP 25 VOTES

  • With its 9-0 start, Rhode Island is starting to get noticed nationally, getting three points in this week's Associated Press Top 25 poll.
  • The last time the Rams were in the AP Top 25 was March 5, 2018 when it was 25th in the AP poll and 24th in the USA Today Coaches Top 25.
  • Rhody is one of three Atlantic 10 teams that received votes this week.
  • Dayton got 38 points in the AP poll and four in the coaches poll.
  • Loyola Chicago got one point in the AP poll and two points in the coaches poll.
