How it HappenedÂ
A back-and-forth shootout did not go Rhode Island's way as the Rams (11-18, 5-11 A-10) fell 94-91 to Saint Louis Saturday evening.
With two minutes to go, Rhody's
David Green sank a pair of free throws to tie the score at 85-85. Saint Louis (11-18, 4-12 A-10) Larry Hughes II responded with two free throws of his own, and after a URI turnover, Stef van Brussel scored on an offensive putback to make it a four-point game.
Green hit a 3-pointer to make it 89-88, and van Brussel again scored on a putback to push the lead back to three points.
Luis Kortright – who had a monster game for the Rams – made a driving layup to once again pull URI within a point at 91-90.
Hughes was fouled with 26 seconds to go and sank both free throws before Kortright was fouled and went 1-for-2 at the line. Gibson Jimerson (30 points) was fouled with seven seconds to go and went 1-for-2 to make it a three-point game again.
Rhode Island was able to push the ball up the floor and get a look from the top of the key, but the shot fell short.
