How It Happened
Big offensive innings for Saint Joseph's were the difference as the Hawks swept Rhode Island in an Atlantic 10 doubleheader Friday afternoon. Saint Joseph's (11-17, 6-2 A-10) used six-run rallies in both games to pull away from the Rams (5-22, 3-5 A-10).
Game 1 – Saint Joseph's 7, Rhode Island 3
Rhode Island had a two-run lead heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, but Saint Joseph's put together a six-run rally to help pull out the win.
With the bases loaded and one out, Kayla Tauber hit a hard chopper to second base that was not handled cleanly. The ball rolled deep into the corner down the rightfield line, allowing all three runners to score. An RBI double by Sarah Cancila and a two-run triple by Hailey Malito capped the rally and the Hawks grabbed the win in the opener.

Game 2 – Saint Joseph's 11, Rhode Island 4
Rhode Island rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to tie the score in the top of the fourth inning. A two-run double by
Cassie Swenson sparked a three-run rally in the top of the third inning. An inning later,
Hannah Hernandez singled, stole second and eventually scored when
Elena Gonzalez reached on an error, tying the score at 4-4.
The momentum was short lived, as Saint Joseph's rallied for six run in the bottom of the inning. Three walks and a hit batsman set the stage for a grand slam by Meghan Sinkus that basically ended the game early.
