Late Rally Not Enough in Loss to Hawks

How It Happened
Rhode Island (5-23, 3-6 A-10) mounted a big, late rally, but it was not quite enough as the Rams were swept in a three-game series, falling at Saint Joseph's 8-5 Sunday afternoon.

The host Hawks jumped out in front with a five-run frame in the bottom of the second. Saint Joseph's (12-17, 7-2 A-10) added a single run in the bottom of the fifth and appeared to be in control with a 6-0 lead.

However, Rhode Island put together a five-run sixth inning to get back in the contest. With the bases loaded and one out, Skyler Rapuano reached on an error that allowed Cassie Swenson and pinch runner Mandi Hanewich to score. Sydney Yoder followed with her second home run of the week, a three-run shot that made the score 6-5.

Saint Joseph's responded with two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Rhody managed to get one runner on in the seventh, but it could not produce any more runs.

Inside the Box Scores
  • Graduate student Cassie Swenson recorded her 304th career assist, tying her with Courtney Prendergast (2009-13) for the most in program history.
  • Swenson also singled twice. For the series, she batted 5-for-10 (.500) with four runs scored and two runs batted in.
  • Graduate student Sydney Yoder's three-run homer gave her nine runs batted in for the season. Seven of the nine RBI have come since March 24.
  • Graduate student Elena Gonzalez doubled, singled, walked and scored one run.
  • Junior Emily Power singled twice.
