Power Goes Deep Twice to Lead URI to Win

How It Happened
Emily Power slugged a pair of home runs and Katie Zaun twirled a complete-game shutout to lead Rhode Island to a 5-0 win over in-state rival Bryant on Tuesday.

Power became the first Rhode Island player since Susan Harrison in 2019 to hit two home runs in the same game. She had a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for the first run of the day for the Rams (6-23). Then, in the bottom of the sixth, Power lined a grand slam just over the left field fence to put the game out of reach.

Zaun took care of the rest to earn her third win of the season. She scattered three hits – all singles – and did not allow a walk. She struck out three batters along the way.

Inside the Box Score
  • Graduate student Cassie Swenson broke the Rhode Island record for career assists with her first of the game. On the play, she caught a line drive off the bat of Megan Marcel and then threw on to first to double Alexis Clancy off of first base.
  • Swenson officially has 308 assists and counting.
  • Junior Emily Power accounted for all of Rhode Island's runs. She was 3-for-3 with two home runs, one single and five runs batted in.
  • The last URI player with two home runs in one game was Susan Harrison against Maryland on March 14, 2019.
  • Power is now leading the team in batting average (.319), home runs (4) and RBI (16). All three figures represent career bests for Power.
  • Graduate student Sydney Yoder and sophomore Kylie Bulinski each singled and scored one run.
  • Graduate student Elena Gonzalez walked, scored once and stole a base. The steal was her team-leading 14th of the season.
  • Junior Katie Zaun pitched the fourth shutout of her career with Rhode Island.
  • Sophomores Becca Zawistowski and Hannah Hernandez each had one single.
