How it Happened
Rhode Island improved on its performance from a day ago but ultimately lost 6-0 to No. 4 Texas A&M on Saturday afternoon at Blue Bell Park.

The majority of the runs that the Rams (15-0) gave up came early in the game, as the pitching staff successfully held the Aggies (15-0) scoreless in five different innings. On the flip side, the team was handed its second-straight shutout, though Texas A&M is the only squad to achieve that feat against Rhode Island this season.

URI had chances to get on the board, pushing runners into scoring position in each of the first four frames. Rhody was 90 feet away in both the third and the sixth but unable to bring either runner home. It was Reece Moroney, who singled and moved over on a DJ Perron hit, that was left in the third and Michael Anderson, who doubled and scampered over on a passed ball, that was stranded in the sixth.

Back-to-back doubles allowed the Aggies to jump out 3-0 in the opening frame but starting arm Evan Maloney maintained his composure and put up zeros in the following two innings. He eventually left the game in the fourth with two on and two outs, but both of the inherited runners came in to push the lead to 5-0. A fifth-inning double plated Texas A&M's final run of the ballgame as Kenny Heon and AJ Jones combined for three scoreless innings to finish out the afternoon.

After Anderson reached in the sixth, the Rams were held without a baserunner.

Inside the Box Score

  • Graduate student DJ Perron went 1-for-3 at the plate with a walk and a single. Moroney drew URI's other walk.
