Game Notes

Rhode Island vs. Saint Joseph's - Series Notes
  • Rhode Island holds a 67-44-1 all-time advantage against Saint Joseph's, making Friday's game the 112th in the 41-year history between the programs.
  • Despite the Rams having the overall edge, the teams have split their last five games, 5-5.
  • That theme remains true over the last two series as well, as URI took two-of-three in Kingston in 2021 and Saint Joseph's earned a sweep at home in 2023.
  • The Hawks outscored their visitors 33-14 in Philadelphia last season.
  • URI had a chance to take the final game but ultimately fell 6-5 after a 10th-inning error.
  • Rhody will take on a familiar face this Sunday afternoon, as former team member Domenic Picone is slated to get the start.
  • Picone played for the Rams from 2020-22 before transferring to the Atlantic 10 foe located in his home state.
  • A win for URI on Friday would snap a four-game losing streak against the opponent. Prior to taking the series a year ago, the Hawks had won the weekend finale of the 2021 set at Bill Beck Field, 6-3.
  • Additionally, the Rams are also on the hunt for their second-straight series victory after defeating UMass last weekend (April 5-7).
  • Rhode Island sandwiched wins on Friday (6-1) and Sunday (5-3) at Bill Beck Field.
Maloney Named Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week
  • Right-handed pitcher Evan Maloney led Rhode Island to victory in its series against Massachusetts last Friday at Bill Beck Field.
  • The redshirt freshman tossed his third-consecutive quality start to improve to 2-1 on the year.
  • He did not give up any earned runs in 8.0 innings and struck out three batters.
  • Maloney scattered three hits while issuing three walks in his stay.
  • The North Kingstown, R.I. native has a 0.00 ERA through the first two weekends of league play (14.0 IP).
  • On the whole, he has a 3.86 ERA through 35.0 innings pitched and leads the team with 28 punchouts.
  • He is the first Ram to earn Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week honors since Domenic Picone did so in 2022 (March 28).
  • Maloney's weekly accolade is the second of the year for URI, as sophomore Michael Anderson was named conference Player of the Week on March 26.

Baseball Announces Fundraising Partnership with Hasbro Children's Hospital

  • Rhody Baseball has partnered with Hasbro Children's Hospital, located 45 minutes away in Providence, to raise money for the hospital during the 2024 season.
  • Throughout the year, every Rhody strikeout, win, hit, home run and stolen base will contribute directly to the children's hospital.
  • The fundraiser consists of five different pledge levels, with dollar amounts attached to each of the aforementioned statistical categories.
  • Juniors Eric Genther and Anthony DePino spearheaded the effort, working with sport administrator Jeff Johnson and members of the Hasbro Children's Hospital administration to organize the fundraiser.
  • Updates concerning the Rams' progress on the field and in their fundraising efforts will be provided on the team's social media channels throughout the year.
  • Fans interested in contributing to this great cause through a pledge or a one-time gift can do so HERE.
