Rams Take Two Against George Washington

How It Happened
Rhode Island picked up two key Atlantic 10 wins by sweeping a doubleheader against George Washington Saturday. The Rams (12-31, 7-10 A-10) won both games on its Senior Day by matching 5-2 scores, extending their winning streak to four games in the process.

Game 1 – Rhode Island 5, George Washington 2
Katie Zaun (5-11) pitched 5.0 shutout innings and Kylie Bulinski delivered three hits and two runs batted in to spark Rhode Island to the win in the opener.

Bulinski got Rhody on the board in the bottom of the first. With two outs, she singled through the right to drive in Cassie Swenson. Two innings later, The Rams added a pair of runs. Casey Miller singled to get things started, and with two down, Elena Gonzalez tripled to the gap in right center to bring her in. Bulinski followed with a single up the middle to drive in Gonzalez for a 3-0 lead.

Swenson's first career home run – a solo shot to left field – padded the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Later in the inning, Bulinski doubled with two down. Pinch runner Mandi Hanewich scored when Skyler Rapuano reached on an error.

Zaun took care of business for 5.0 innings, scattering four hits while earning her second win of the week. Ashley Hibbard came on to record the final three outs of the game and earn her third save of the season.

Game 2 – Rhode Island 5, George Washington 2
Rhode Island jumped out quick in the second game. Hannah Hernandez drew a walk and eventually scored when Elena Gonzalez doubled to left field. Kylie Bulinski then launched a long home run to right field to make it 3-0.

GW cut into the lead with a two-run homer by Allison Heffley in the top of the third. In the bottom of the inning, URI manufactured two runs of its own. Skyler Rapuano walked with the bases loaded to drive in Hernandez, and Emily Power followed with a sacrifice fly to bring Gonzalez home for a 5-2 lead.

With the run support in place, pitchers Ashley Hibbard (5-4) and Liz Lynchard combined to hold the Revolutionaries to just six hits.
