How It Happened
Loyola Chicago ace Peyton Pepkowski hurled six scoreless innings to lead the Ramblers to a 6-0 victory over Rhode Island Sunday afternoon. The win was her second in as many days, as Loyola Chicago (16-19, 5-7 Atlantic 10) took the rubber game of the series.
Rhode Island (7-25, 4-8 A-10) was unable to do much damage against Pepkowski, who struck out eight batters and walked just two. URI had five hits on the day, all singles. Rhody's best chance came in the first inning, when it loaded the bases with just one out. However, a line out and strikeout ended the threat.
Loyola Chicago leadoff hitter Ava Bieneman singled and scored in both the first and third innings to give the Ramblers all the runs needed for the win. The Ramblers scored twice in the fifth inning and Addie Gregus hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning to cap the scoring.
