Rhode Island Officially Named to 2024 NCAA Championship Field

KINGSTON, R.I. – Rhode Island is heading to the NCAA Championship for the seventh time in program history, officially receiving its bid during the 2024 NCAA.com selection show Tuesday night. URI will head to Bethel, Ohio to compete in the championship at East Fork/Harsha Lake from May 31 through June 2.

Team members and coaches gathered at the Mews Tavern in Wakefield to watch the selection show. One of 11 automatic qualifiers unveiled Tuesday, the Rams clinched their spot in the field by winning the program's 10th Atlantic 10 title on Sunday. Rhode Island has won five of the last six A-10 titles.

URI was the seventh team mentioned during the selection show, as the show started with automatic qualifiers in alphabetical order. Rhody's top two boats – the Varsity 8+ and Second Varsity 8+ will be seeded 21st in their respective flights, while the Varsity 4+ boat will be the 22nd seed.

The national championship involves three days of racing. Each flight will have four heats on Friday, May 31. All three Rhode Island boats will participate in Heat 4 of their respective flights.

The top two boats in each flight secure spots in the A/B semifinals on Saturday, June 1, while the rest of the teams move on to the C/D semifinals that day.

The finals in each flight will be held on Sunday, June 2. Each flight has four sets of finals – D Final (places 19-22), C Final (places 13-18), Petite Final (places 7-12) and Grand Final (places 1-6).
