Slowey Adds High Point Transfer Sami MacDonald

KINGSTON, R.I. — Rhode Island women's lacrosse head coach Jenna Slowey announced the addition of High Point transfer Sami MacDonald to the team on Wednesday. "We could not be more excited to add Sami to our team," said Slowey. "It is evident to everyone that interacts with her how much of force and leader she is. She exudes confidence, passion, and determination, all values which we hope to continue to build here at Rhode Island. Her game experience will be instrumental for our inaugural season."

MacDonald comes to Kingston as a graduate transfer after spending the last four years at High Point. With the Panthers, she earned a starting role and eventual captain after missing her freshman year due to injury. She totaled 48 ground balls and 37 caused turnovers in 47 career games as a defender. In 2023, she was named to the IWLCA Academic Honor Roll.  Her first season at High Point saw the Panthers win the Big South Tournament, earning the automatic bid and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The team advanced to the title game of the Big South Championship in three of the last four seasons.

Prior to High Point, she attended Shawnee High School where she was named a US Lacrosse Academic All-American. A team captain, she scored 42 goals and recorded 30 assists in 29 games. Keeping it in the family, Sami joins her sister, Sydney, who's a freshman midfielder for the Rams.

The Rams begin their inaugural season next spring 2025.
