KINGSTON, R.I. -- Rhode Island lacrosse head coach
Jenna Slowey announced nine Rams that will join the team as first years in 2025. Rhody also
welcomed three transfers to the squad in the offseason. The newcomers consist of two attackers, three midfielders, a goalkeeper, and three members of the defensive unit.
Ashlyn Carpenter comes to Kingston as an attack from Chatham, New Jersey. Carpenter attended Chatham High School where she scored over 100 goals in two seasons and was team captain. In the classroom, she was a member of the National Honors Society and the leader of Play Unified club. Carpenter played club lacrosse for seven years with BBL Elite and was named First Team All League, First Team All Morris County, Second Team All State, and All Group First Team. In 2025, Carpenter was a member of the NJ Morris County Championship team.
Slowey on Carpenter: "Ashlyn is a shifty, smart attacker. She brings positivity and high energy every day. We are excited to see how can contribute on the offensive end."
Sophie Gill, sister of Rhody senior
Izze Gill, joins the squad in Kingston out of Ensworth High School. She was a member of the lacrosse team all four years at Ensworth and was team captain in 2025. Gill played club lacrosse with TNLAX for eight years and No Excuse for eight years. In 2024, she was named All-State, All-Academic, and All-Region.
Slowey on Gill: "Sophie is coming back from a previous injury last season. She is coming into the year with a great understanding of the culture and commitment it takes to be a part of Rhode Island Lacrosse."
The midfield will gain three new student-athletes added to the roster.
Emmie Goettelmann joins the Rams from Garden City, N.Y. Goettelmann attended Garden City High School where she played both lacrosse and field hockey. She was named the Unsung Hero her senior year with the lacrosse team. For seven years, Goettelmann played lacrosse with club Tradition.
Slowey on Goettelmann: "Emmie is a worker. With her experience at a high level high school program, we are excited to see what she can bring to both sides of the ball."
Orla Howlett, a Rhode Island native from Providence, R.I., is a 5'4 midfielder. She attended Classical High School and scored over 300 career goals. Howlett, representing team Ireland, played in the World Games this past summer. She was a captain for the U20 National team for the World Championship in 2024 and a member of the team that won the European Championship.
Slowey on Howlett: "Orla is one of Rhode Island's best players in her class. Orla brings a high level of athleticism to the field."
Celie Shield joins the Rams as a 5' 9" midfielder from Richmond, Va. Shield was a member of the lacrosse team all four years in addition to the field hockey and basketball teams, collecting 12 varsity letters total at Collegiate High School. Her senior year, she captained the lacrosse, field hockey and basketball teams. She was named the 2025 LIS Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-State First Team.
Slowey on Shield: "Celie is a ball of energy in the best way possible. If she is near the ball, she finds a way to make a play. We are also excited to add her to our draw unit this spring."
The defensive unit will see four new student athletes added to the roster, including a goalkeeper.
Sanaa Baldwin is a 5'8 defender from Philadelphia, Pa. She was a four-year member of the lacrosse team at Episcopal High School and a team captain her senior year. Baldwin collected VISAA Second Team All State honors and All-ISL Honorable Mention. She played club lacrosse with Harlem Lacrosse National.
Slowey on Baldwin: "Sanaa already has shown she has a high-level understanding on defense. Her IQ and footwork have shined this fall."
Kristina Cirino is a 5'2" midfielder from Limerick, Pa. She attended Spring-Ford Area High School and was a member of the lacrosse team as a two-time captain. Cirino played club lacrosse with NXT LC for six years.
Slowey on Cirino: "Kristina is another freshman who is entering the year post-surgery. She has already been a positive force to our sideline as she continues to work to full strength."
Rowan Pauzano joins the Rams as a goalkeeper from Media, Pa. She attended Agnes Irwin School where she spent all four years between the posts. Pauzano earned a spot on the All-Academic Team and the All-Interac Second Team, both in 2025. At Agnes Irwin, she was crowned PAISAA Champions her senior year. Pauzano spent four years with Dynasty Elite club lacrosse and she also spent time on the volleyball team.
Slowey on Pauzano: "Rowan will be a great addition to our goalie unit, with her quick hand speed. She is eager to continue to develop and learn."
Keira Tyler comes to Kingston as a defender from Charleston, S.C. She attended School of the Holy Child Rye before graduating from Bishop England High School. Tyler was a member of the lacrosse team all four years and played club with Compass Lacrosse. She captained the team at Bishop England her senior year and was named the South Carolina Defender of the Year in 2025. She earned a spot on the South Carolina National Team in back-to-back seasons (2023, 2024) and was named Rookie of the Year in 2023. Tyler and Bishop England were South Carolina High School League AAAA Girls Lacrosse State Runner Ups in 2025 after being crowned champions in 2024.
Slowey on Tyler: "Battling early injury, I am confident Keira will grow into a contributor for us on the defensive end. She is tough nosed and resilient."
